Making a film takes vision, knowledge, resources, and community.

Next Meeting:

June 21, 2023 – 7:00 PM
The Bird Comedy Theater
103 W. 19th St., Ste. B

  • June is packed with excitement for the Independent Filmmakers Coalition! Get ready to celebrate the incredible 25th Anniversary of the One Night Stand, our signature film contest. We’re thrilled to showcase a collection of outstanding films from past years, serving, hopefully, as inspiration for this year’s competition.

But that’s not all! We’re stoked to announce the arrival of Sarah McGuire and Jeffrey Staab, who will share their invaluable insights on Understanding Story from an actor’s perspective. They’ll also dish out practical tips on how to become a confident and integral part of a One Night Stand team.

Join us for an unforgettable month of cinematic magic, creativity, and a whole lot of fun. As always, we will end the evening with “Shameless Self-Promotion” and the chance to network (and hopefully find a ONS team)!

Drinks and snacks are available at the bar.

    The event is hosted at:

    The Bird Comedy Theater

We help independent creators from around the region produce new projects, connect within the industry, and champion collaborative storytelling at all stages.

We do this through our monthly meetings, IFC’s Film Lab, seminars, and our signature film competitions.

Brief History

Founded in 1993 by a group of people who just wanted to make movies, the Independent Filmmakers Coalition of Kansas City is one of the oldest independent filmmaker groups in the US, and one of the most vibrant.

“More Films, Better Films” and our model is simple: Help each other make films.

We’ve found that if you help someone make their film, bringing your talents and energy and passion, then they will do the same. Together we all grow as storytellers, and the films get better and better.

It’s worked EXTREMELY well for over 25 years, and we’re never going to stop doing it.

Upcoming Events

Screen your film!

Would you like constructive feedback on your current production? Or just want to get some honest reactions from the audience? Maybe you have a feature film and need help finding a screening venue in the area?

Let us know and we can schedule your film for an upcoming meeting!
