Monthly Film Challenge

How it works: The basics

    • Each month we will give everyone a challenge prompt.
    • You will have until the next meeting to film a 1-minute micro short film using the challenge prompt.
    • Your film cannot be more than 1 minute including credits.
    • You will upload your film to YouTube and provide the link via the form below.
    • Your film may be featured at our next meeting and will be added to the IFCKC YouTube 1 Minute Micro Film Challenge Playlist.*
    • The best of each month will receive tickets to a local movie theater.
    • Please review the official challenge rules below for additional information.

official Challenge rules

  • Any filmmaker from Kansas or Missouri can submit a film into the challenge.
  • The filmmaker does not have to be an IFCKC member.
  • Board members of the IFCKC may submit a film, but will not be allowed to vote in that month’s challenge.
  • The cost to submit a film into this challenge is FREE.
  • Film entries must be no more than one (1) minute in total length including any credits.
  • Films must include the 1-Minute Monthly Micro Challenge Bumper (this will not be counted toward the total time)
  • The film must be made within the month the challenge prompt is issued.
  • The film must incorporate that month’s prompt.
  • The film must not contain any explicit content that would prevent it from being shown to a public audience.
  • The film must not contain any copyrighted materials that would be in violation of YouTube’s copyright guidelines.
  • Films must be submitted by noon on the Saturday prior to the following month’s Wednesday meeting.
(An official deadline will be given with the prompt each month.)
  • The film must be uploaded to the filmmaker’s YouTube channel.
(Please ensure the video is listed as “Public” and NOT set to “For Kids”.)
  • The filmmaker must submit the film by the deadline using the form on the IFCKC website at https://ifckc.org/monthly-film-challenge/.
  • A filmmaker may submit more than one (1) film, but may not submit more than two (2) films in that month’s challenge.
  • If a film is submitted late, the film may be included in the monthly YouTube playlist, but will not be eligible for screening or awards.
  • Each month, the IFCKC will select the top three films to be shown at the next month’s meeting.
  • The top three filmmakers will be notified by the Tuesday before that month’s meeting. While attendance is not required at the meeting, it is encouraged.
  • All films that meet the challenge requirements will be added to a monthly playlist on the IFCKC’s YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/@IFCKC. This playlist will be shared with followers of the IFCKC’s social media channels.
  • The film with the highest average score each month will be designated as that month’s challenge winner.
  • The winner of the monthly challenge will receive tickets to a local movie theater.
  • Members of the IFCKC board of directors will vote on the entries each month.
  • All film scores will be averaged for the overall score.
  • Films are ranked on a scale of 1 to 10 based on the film’s ability to best meet the monthly prompt.
  • Any IFCKC board member that submits a film into that month’s challenge will not be allowed to vote that month.
  • The IFCKC reserves the right to screen or not to screen your film. We also reserve the right to not add your film to the monthly playlist. If your film does not meet the challenge requirements it will be disqualified. If we feel your film is inappropriate for a public audience due to graphic content, excessive explicit language, etc. it may not be shown.
