IFC Film Lab

One-On-One Training On Set

For over 30 years, the IFC has been helping the community create their films that have gone on to exciting festival and distribution paths.

So, now we’ve decided to make some ourselves with The IFC Film Lab, which partners with students and others looking to learn about film production hands on.

Our sets become working classrooms, bringing professional film crews together with our members of all skill levels for one-on-one partnerships that gives real in-depth experiences from some of the most talented filmmakers in the Midwest.

Script Search

Each film starts with a submission process where the IFC accepts scripts from its community and sometimes beyond.

The screenwriter works with the Producer and Director on the preproduction process.

Professionally Produced

Each film is produced by an IFC Board Member and shot by professional cinematographers working in the industry today. Crew positions are filled with seasoned pros that know their craft and want to share with the next “generation” of film crew-members.

hands on learning

Students and Mentees work with the Crew members via one on one mentorship. They gain real crew experience, building their producing skills, film credits, and technical expertise. They gain a valuable insight into how a film set actually runs, not what they read in a book.

Calling Card

The film is screened locally and will go on a festival run. Every member of the cast and crew can take ownership of their production and share their hard work and add to their reels for that next film endeavor.
