IFC Annual One Night Stand

One Night Stand is our original signature event.

In only ten hours:

Teams will gather, receive elements for a script, write, shoot, and edit their film.

Then, those films are screened that very night!

Schedule for the day:

7:30 AM – Meet at The Bird Comedy Theater, located at 103 W 19 St, Kansas City, MO 64108. One last chance to join a team or look for needed positions. Coffee will be provided.

8:30 AM – Official drawing of the Elements to take place simultaneously at The Bird and via Zoom. Link will be emailed to you with the email you provided when registering your film.

8:31 AM – Teams begin producing their films.

6:30 PM – Any films submitted online are due. Teams upload their films to the designated link that will be provided. Films sent after this time won’t be eligible for any Judges Awards.

6:55 PM – Films submitted to the official drop-off site are due (Glenwood Arts Theater). Films delivered after this time won’t be eligible for any Judges Awards.

*Meeting up with others for drinks after drop off and before the screening is encouraged. Official spot: The Bar Prairie Village, located at 5316 W 95th St., Prairie Village, KS 66207.

8:00 PM – Doors open for the screening at The Glenwood Arts Theatre, located at 3707 W. 95th St., Overland Park, KS 66206.

8:30 PM – Screening begins.

After Screening – Awards and celebration of a day well done!

After Party: Back to The Bar Prairie Village!

OFFICIAL RULES

  1. 100% OF YOUR FILM MUST BE SHOT DURING THE 10 HOURS OF THE COMPETITION.

  2. ALL FILMS MUST INCLUDE THE SELECTED LINE OF DIALOGUE, OBJECT, AND THEME. FILMS THAT DO NOT INCLUDE THOSE ITEMS WON’T WIN…ANYTHING.

  3. PHYSICAL SUBMISSIONS MUST BE ON A THUMB DRIVE. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO RETRIEVE YOUR THUMB DRIVE.

  4. AUDIO NEEDS TO BE RECORDED AT A LEVEL BETWEEN -4db and 0db.

  5. IFC WILL NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR LOSS OF ANY MATERIALS, SCREENING PROBLEMS, OR JUDGES’ DECISIONS.

  6. THE IFCKC MAY CHOOSE TO NOT SCREEN OR CEASE SCREENING OF ANY FILM AT ANY TIME.

  7. EACH PAID ENTRANT WILL BE GIVEN ONE FREE ADMISSION TO THE SCREENING TO DISTRIBUTE AT WILL. OTHER TEAM MEMBERS AND GUESTS WILL BE CHARGED ADMISSION TO ATTEND THE SCREENING.

  8. JACKASS CLAUSE: FILMS WHICH EXPOSE PERSONS OR PROPERTY TO UNDUE RISK OF INJURY OR DAMAGE WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. ANY SCREENING WILL BE HALTED AND WILL AUTOMATICALLY BE DISQUALIFIED FROM JUDGING.

  9. THE INDEPENDENT FILMMAKERS COALITION WILL RETAIN NON-EXCLUSIVE SCREENING, PROMOTIONAL, AND REPRODUCTION RIGHTS TO ALL ENTRIES.

  10. TIME LIMIT WILL BE MEASURED FROM FIRST SOUND, CREDIT, IMAGE, OR SCENE TO CREDITS END. A TIME LIMIT WILL BE DETERMINED THE MORNING OF THE EVENT, BASED ON THE NUMBER OF TEAM ENTRIES. MAX TIME IS TYPICALLY 5-7 MINUTES.

  11. IF, IN YOUR OPINION, THE FILM MIGHT GET AN R RATING FROM THE MPAA, LET US KNOW SO WE CAN ALERT THE AUDIENCE. FAILURE TO NOTIFY THE IFCKC OF ADULT CONTENT WILL RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION FROM THE CONTEST.

  12. FILMS NEED TO BE TURNED IN BY THE ANNOUNCED TIME AT THE DESIGNATED DROP OFF LOCATION. UNDER EXTRAORDINARY CONDITIONS, THE DEADLINE MAY BE EXTENDED AT THE SOLE DISCRETION OF THE IFCKC BOARD.

  13. LATE FILMS MAY STILL BE SCREENED, AT THE DISCRETION OF CONTEST OFFICIALS, BUT THEY WILL NOT BE ELIGIBLE FOR JUDGING. LATE FILMS MAY STILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR THE AUDIENCE CHOICE AWARD.

  14. THE TEAM SUBMISSION FEE OF $25 WILL NOT BE REFUNDED FOR ANY REASON.

Delivery requirements:

Before your film starts, please insert 3 seconds of black, then 5 seconds of a “Title Card” (simple white text on a black background) with your Team Name and Title of your film, and then 3 additional seconds of black.

The Entrant should not distribute their entry/video in any way prior to it receiving its official ONE NIGHT STAND premiere screening. This includes uploading the video to any website (other than the official submission website for online submissions).

Judging of Entries:

Entries will be judged by a group of industry veterans based on the following criteria:

Elements & Rules Adherence – 33%

Originality, Visual Style, and Storytelling – 33%

Film language and Technical Merit – 33%

Prize Winning:

Participants must be present at the screening event and the prize presentation (immediately following the screening) on Saturday, June 24th to be eligible for the competition awards.

Winners will be announced at the event and subsequently posted online.
